At Easter we finally installed our latest project

At Easter we finally installed our latest project - a new mosaic to replace the broken 1990s artwork on West Mill Street. Have you seen it yet? 👀 It was made as part of our Mosaic Conservation training courses, led by @helenmilesmosaics. The free courses were aimed at 15-25 year olds interested in a career in traditional skills and were part of our "Building Skills - Inspiring Futures" programme (generously funded by @histenvscot and @gannochytrust). The mosaic was installed by Andrew MacDonald. Stay tuned for more behind the scenes pics!

As part of our "Building Skills - Inspiring Futures" scheme, we recently ran free training courses in sash and case window conservation. The courses were led by woodkeeper Jonathon Schiavone and aimed at young people or those looking at career 'next steps'. They were made possible by funding from @histenvscot and The Gannochy Trust.

A few weeks ago we had groups of young people in #lowercitymills attending courses in the art of traditional mosaics. The free courses (part of our "Building Skills - Inspiring Futures" project) were led by expert @helenmilesmosaics and funded by @histenvscot and The Gannochy Trust. They were aimed at young people who are interested in a career in traditional skills. The courses allowed participants to create their own mini mosaic to take home as well as to contribute to the creation of a replacement mosaic for the pavement on West Mill Street, Perth, where a previous mosaic from the 1990s had deteriorated badly. Today, 06.04.23, we are installing the new mosaic! The stunning new artwork will help to beautify the streets of #Perth City. Stay tuned to see the final reveal! 🧐🎨

Last month we held our first Traditional Skills Roadshow since the pandemic. Almost 100 pupils from St John's Academy and Perth Grammar School were engaged in a taster sessions demonstrating traditional building trades over two days. A huge thank you is owed to the brilliant professionals who agreed to lead the sessions for us, as well as to @histenvscot for providing grant funding. This is Cultybraggan POW Camp. Cultybraggan has been a prisoner of war camp, an MOD training camp and is now a multi-use site owned by the people of Comrie. The camp is opening for the #DoorsOpenDays weekend 17-18 September. Go along to discover stories of PoWs and Nazi murder, meet the artisans and community groups now using the camp and sample their quality produce. Excitingly, the camp is also hosting a craft and food fair as part of the Great Perthshire Food and Drink Festival! For full details, see the 2022 Doors Open Days programme.

“Working independently and collaboratively to preserve, enhance and increase understanding of Perth and Kinross’s historic environment.”

#perthandkinrossheritagetrust is a registered Scottish Charity based in #lowercitymills Perth. Since 1988 the Trust has been achieving a wide remit encompassing historic building conservation, archaeology, access to the historic environment and interpretation. Our services include providing archaeological planning advice, maintaining Perth and Kinross’ Historic Environment Record, offering training in traditional skills, delivering Perth City Heritage Fund and the Community Heritage Grant scheme, and organising the Doors Open Days festival within the region.

The Trust also delivers a range of projects, such as the Tay Landscape Partnership, King’s Seat Archaeology Project, and Perth and Kinross Archaeological Research Framework. We are currently working on the ambitious Lower City Mills Project. This will restore both the A listed building and its public access as well as establish a heritage skills and conservation hub. In May 2022 Lower City Mills was the location of the first Milling Matters Conference, an event hosted jointly by the Trust and the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (Scotland) focusing on mills and millwright skills.

In addition, the Trust offers a range of educational resources, leaflets and publications on the archaeology and history of the region. These are available for UK and international delivery via our website www.pkht.org.uk
